How did I get myself in this situation?

Ha, you thought I was going to have an actual post. The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-29398632764579475572007-01-24T18:45:00.000-05:002007-01-24T19:23:10.223-05:00Out of Contact...Hey look...its another post...two days in a row (pat on the back).

Everyone has their share of flaws..and I'm no different. However, a major flaw I have is an inability to keep contact with people. Now I'm not talking about people who have pissed me off, or wronged me in some way. I mean people who I generally have no issues with, and probably consider them to be friends in some twisted way. Unfortunately, I have the worst time keeping up with most of these people unless the are in my general vicinity, or they make a concerted effort to stay in contact with me.

Maybe you remember me saying this, but I'm not really a fan of talking on the phone. I can't explain why, but for some reason I'm unable to carry on a phone conversation for more than 30 minutes in most cases. I just can't do it. To date the only people who can stretch me past that time limit on the phone are my girlfriend and my mom. Ask my girlfriend the struggle she went through(and probably still goes through) when it comes to talking to me on the phone. I'm a computer person...I guess on a broader level I'm just a technology person. When I got to college, everyone used instant messenger to communicate. My room phone was basically a hotline for my parents to reach me and not much else. I've gotten to the point where online seems like a reasonable equivalent to a phone call...unfortunately I seem to be in the minority in this issue. I realized for many people a phone call does not equal a IM conversation.

I'm also pretty lazy. I can easily busy myself with other things like writing a blog post or playing video games or anything other than actually trying to stay in contact with friends and acquaintances. I'm sure its not just me who has some of these problems, but I guess over time I realize theres shit I miss out on. For example it seems my man Bonus and his girl got engaged at least 4 months ago, and are getting married sometime this year. Somehow I only found out about this 2 weeks ago (My bad Bonus if you're reading this, congrats to both of you), and I know I didn't find out cause I wasn't keeping up with my friends. Sucks to be me.

I guess there's no real point to this other than my own catharsis, however if you are reading this and I haven't spoken to you in a while, there's a good chance you'll be getting some kind of contact from me sooner than you think. I'm going to at least make an effort to reconnect with my people (not weoples as E-40 would put it) before I have no friends left.

That is all.The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-83854203497841964872007-01-23T16:32:00.000-05:002007-01-23T23:15:09.171-05:00Play it by ear......this is going to be a post about music, so that was a bad pun. However, it works in so many ways when describing the state of this blog....

What I'm currently listening to (because I have a false sense of self importance and think people give a shit what I listen to):

Album: Black Star (Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star)
Genre: Hip-Hop
Released: 1998
Standout Songs: Definition, RE: definition, Respiration
My take: It was around 1997-1998 when hip-hop took a terrible turn as far as I was concerned. Biggie and Tupac(who I wasn't really a fan of) were both dead, and this glam, frilly, music took over thanks to the likes of Sean Combs and others. I was completely turned off...stopped listening to the radio, stopped watching MTV for the most part. I wanted nothing to do with mainstream hip-hop. I found wonderful underground music after this...and this was one of the first albums I bought...outstanding piece of work. Both lyricists are hungry and relatively early in their careers, and that combination makes for a great album. If you are a hip-hop fan (and don't like most of what you hear on the radio) it's something you should at least hear.

Album: Silent Alarm (Bloc Party)
Genre: Indie Rock(i think)
Released: 2005
Standout Songs: Like Eating Glass, Banquet
My take: I can't give a full synopsis as I just recently started listening to this...but I like it. It's rock music, but it's not cheesy or overblown in any sense, at least to me. Something I can actually listen to from end to end. I can't explain my affinity for British indie rock music, but this is a good album, just wish I had stumbled upon it sooner.

Album: The Black Album (Jay-Z)
Genre: Hip-Hop
Released: 2003
Standout Songs: What More Can I Say, Threat, PSA
My take: What more can possibly be said about Jay-Z? This isn't his most recent album, however its probably a much better effort. This was the album he went into his "retirement" with and it seemed at the time a good way to go out. Obviously a different person from his first offering in 1996 (Reasonable Doubt), but still just as if not more talented lyrically. The album hits some snags (namely anytime he works with Pharrell of the Neptunes), but it's still solid, and for some reason I find myself listening to it currently.

Album: Corinne Bailey Rae (Corinne Bailey Rae)
Genre: Soul/Jazz/R&B
Released: 2006
Standout Songs: Like A Star, Enchantment
My take: I must have some soft spot for British musicians...or maybe its just soul/jazz music. Whatever it is I happened upon this album last year after watching Vh1 Soul late one evening, and I'm still listening to it. Not sure if its for everyone, but she has a good voice, and her songs are very pleasant. Great to listen to when trying to relax. The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1166715361857117112006-12-21T10:35:00.000-05:002006-12-21T10:36:01.876-05:00Urban Human Stranger RodeoJust watch..

The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1166712718806179892006-12-21T09:47:00.000-05:002006-12-21T09:51:58.810-05:00Wall Street Brawl.....I'm sure this has made the rounds already, but it was definitely the funniest thing I read yesterday.

GIANTS' REVENGE ON BRAWL ST.
MARA'S SON TACKLES MOCKING EAGLE FAN

It seems the son of deceased New York Giants owner Wellington Mara, did not take kindly to some good natured mocking after his team lost over the weekend.

"The son of the legendary late Giants owner Wellington Mara tackled and choked a fellow broker on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange yesterday after the man mocked the team, sources said."

The best part is what actually was the mocking action. The Detroit vs Indiana fight...Ron Artest-gate...whatever. I could understand some of the issues with that incident. I agree, you can't attack the fans, no matter what they do to you, there's no real justification. I also don't think fans should be allowed to throw shit at people in any sporting event...unless its Barry Bonds, I'm all for throwing shit at him. Because I know if anyone ever threw something at me while I was doing my job, all hell would break loose in my office.

However, there is no relation with that fight, and the one that happened last saturday. If for some reason you don't know what I'm talking about watch here:

shockingly the NBA took down all the good videos of this..if you need a better version go to espn.com

My question, and it's been brought up by numerous other people in the past few days, is why is this fight such news. No fans were hurt or attacked at all. One might have gotten tumbled on, but that was quickly fixed. So what's the big deal. From my viewpoint I saw one really hard foul, a small shoving match, a 45 second wrestling match, and one of the sissiest punches I've seen in a long time. That's national news now? Fights like this occur in other sports much more often than in the NBA, and there was a point in the NBA when incidents such as this would occur and it made zero headlines. I've seen a clip where Kevin McHale literally clotheslined Kurt Rambis on the court, and he wasn't even thrown out of the game. Why now does a sissy slap punch make headline news and get the player suspended for 15 games. What did I miss?

Also, Carmelo Anthony, I understand you have been under some scrutiny in recent years with some off the court issues. However, if you are going to "take it back to b-more" and really fight, please please don't half ass it. And definitely don't back pedal like your mom yelled at you to come inside for dinner. That's all I ask.The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1166711129902396022006-12-21T09:08:00.000-05:002006-12-21T09:25:29.920-05:00Hello......for the two of you out there who still check this...remember me? I could apologize and talk about how I'm going to do better at this, but theres no point. I don't know whats going to happen with the future of this blog. So just one day at a time.

It has a been a trying few weeks, especially with a lot of the negative feedback I'm getting (or was getting) at my job. I went into crisis mode trying to find a job as quickly as possible...but I'm still here for the time being. It all culminated this past weekend as I got the news that my godmother had passed away. I'm not going to sit here and sing the praises of my godmother to you. I knew her, and I'm pretty sure anyone who reads this did not. However, for as long as I've known my mother I've known her. There's a long drawn out story of how our families met, but thats irrelevant...and I'm not exactly sure what my point is for writing this either. All I know is she was important to me, and now she's no longer around. Had be one of the hardest things I've ever done, carrying the casket of my 48 year old godmother into a church on Monday. I'd have given anything to not being doing that.

She knew me better than any non family member...shit, to be honest, she knew me better than most of my extended family. I spent 21 of the last 24 Thanksgiving holidays of my life with her and her family. There were family vacations together, trips to the poconos, random summer visits, and numerous more. The memories are priceless, and the bonds are just as strong as blood. Enough rambling...this post doesn't really make any sense, but if I was going to start writing again I had to start with what is taking up all the space in my mind.

R.I.P.
Antoinette Papincak
Nov. 18, 1958 - Dec. 15, 2006The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1165421468178882652006-12-06T11:08:00.000-05:002006-12-06T11:11:08.200-05:00My kind of work...Yeah I haven't been updating...blah.

If you do remember one of my more recent posts, it had to with dissatisfaction at my current place of employment. There, I've said it. After years of ignoring my feelings and hoping that things would change with the next album, video, or artist, I have finally accepted the fact that hip-hop simply isn't good anymore. I started just writing another comment in response, but it was getting too long, so I decided just to make another post.

So it seems the Democrats have taken over congress, and in effect handcuffed GWB for the last 2 years of his presidency. Congrats. Well congrats only if a Democratic President is elected in 2008. If we get another Republican President we will end up with basically 6 years of political stalemate.

Either way, to clarify...my only real reason for not wanting to vote, was not wanting either candidate to win. That's a shortsighted reasoning, because I know the balance of power effects me and everyone else. However, I refuse to believe that the government climate in this country means that I must vote in order to give my "team" the advantage in congress. Even if I don't want that person to win. I don't even really like that team. I don't like either team. It's like if I went to McDonald's and they said all we got is the Fillet-O-Fish and the McRib, I'm not picking one just to pick one, I'll just go somewhere else. Only I can't go somewhere else, at least not currently. That seems silly to me, but it probably is how things are now. If there was a section on the ballot that would allow me to just vote for general dissatisfaction with our government I'd have been the first person at the polls. Why keep going with the status quo when it's something you don't believe in doing.

However, I'm not going to try to say voting doesn't matter, or isn't important, because as McCoy astutely pointed out, numerous things could possibly happen with the switching of congress. Some beneficial to me. Wonderful. I will not do any bitching (I rarely bitch about political issues) since I didn't vote, and I hadn't planned on doing any regardless of who won.

In the end, I think we can all agree to say we are just happy the obnoxious and ridiculous political slander ads are over with. If I never see Michael Steele holding a puppy or standing with his kids again, it will be too soon.

No more about this until the next election...The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1162929663693459682006-11-07T14:41:00.000-05:002006-11-07T15:01:03.996-05:00I didn't vote today...and I don't plan on ityup...I didn't vote today. I can honestly say I had no intentions on voting today at all. Never once considered it. I'm sure someone reading this is now getting one of those "I can't believe he didn't vote" faces. Whatever. I don't care. I'm also not going to get up on my soapbox and tell why I didn't vote and expect you to see things my way. I definitely don't care whether you agree with me or not.

In 2000, I was the first person in my family to vote in this country ever (my parents are resident aliens), and yeah the guy I voted for won, and the lost, and then almost won again, but lost anyway.

In 2004, when I was actually a resident of the state of MD, I voted once again, mind you I was hesitant, specifically because of the screwy electoral college system in this country and the fact that the two states I could possibly vote in normally swing democratic. Nevertheless, I voted. My guy lost again. Whatever.

That didn't discourage me. What was sad was that I didn't go in thinking I was voting for someone I actually wanted to lead me, more so I was just voting for the lesser of two evils. Just another log on the fire of my disillusionment with the U.S. government.

So now this mid term election comes up. Ben Cardin, Michael Steele, Martin O' Malley (he seems to be who the modeled Tommy Carcetti after on The Wire) blah blah blah. "I'm for change!" Whatever, I bet you are pal.

I guess my point is if you want to vote, great I don't care. If you don't want to vote thats great too. Just 6 months ago I was starting out on a new job, with hopes of it being much different than the last. Well it was definitely different, but that wasn't necessarily a good thing.

Maybe I'm too transient a person, maybe I constantly need new challenges to keep me going. Or is it that I just need more continuity in my job. At my old job there was one speed, busy. All the time, you were busy or you weren't at work. Which in hindsight seemed to have worked better for me. At my current place of employment there are deep lulls and extreme highs of work to be done. When I'm in one of the lulls, I completely fall off track and end up scouring the internet for cheap laughs 98% of the day.

I also genuinely believe I have no interest at all in what I'm doing. I would go through the hassle of telling you what I do, if I thought anyone would understand or care about what I do. Am I stupid to think that at age 24 (I really had to think for a second to make sure I was 24, Christ I'm getting old) I should be doing something I generally have an interest in? I've pretty much settled on a plan of getting an MBA starting in 2007, but I'll be working while doing that and I feel like maybe I should do something I actually give a shit about, or at least mildly enjoy. It's not like I'm raking in the big bucks over here, I have the same bills as everyone else, and do just enough to pay them and buy frivolous electronic items that I don't need. However, I'm not exactly sure what I'd like to do...my old boss suggested I look at radio station companies like clear channel/radio one/xm etc., which I'll probably look into, but I haven't the slightest idea if that will interest me.

I should probably just stop bitching and keep what I have...haha, I even laughed when I typed that. That's not me, not the way I operate. When something is going the way I like it to go, I fix it, or stop doing it. It seems as if that's what will happen here. Off to revising my resume and sneaking to interviews once again, only 6 months removed from the last time I did it. Lucky me.The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1162225795337615772006-10-30T11:24:00.000-05:002006-10-30T11:29:55.340-05:00Tickle Me Coke TransportFrom thesmokinggun.com

Hook Me Up, Elmo

OCTOBER 26--A Colorado drug operation hid large quantities of methamphetamine inside Elmo dolls, according to federal investigators who yesterday announced the indictment of 21 alleged members of the ring. During a year-long probe, Drug Enforcement Administration agents seized an Elmo doll (seen in the below DEA evidence photo) in Barstow, California that was stuffed with four pounds of methamphetamine. When investigators opened up the plush doll's skull, they discovered the drug stash inside wrapped in plastic (as seen in this evidence pic). While Elmo has never previously been linked to narcotics distribution or use, the Sesame Street character appears to have no teeth, which frequently is seen in heavy meth users.

The picture is quality.

The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1162225304572162362006-10-30T10:50:00.000-05:002006-10-30T11:21:44.650-05:00Sigh...It's kind of depressing to see that my last post where I wrote something was 13 days ago or something like that. I literally just haven't had the time to sneak anything in. At this new job I spent the better part of 4 months doing pretty much nothing. Over the course of the past 2 months everything ramped up, culminating in me working something like 112 hours in the last two weeks. Whatever. I like writing on this thing, and take some kind of pride in keeping it going. Things seem to have slowed down a bit now and I should be able update more regularly and frequently as plenty of crap is on my mind.

Today: Cursing Rowe's damn fantasy football team and Tatum Bell for completely choking yesterday. Also contemplating the excessive amount of laundry I have to do this evening while figuring out where I'll be enjoying Monday Night Football...thank god for the people that invented this as it makes the Monday work day just slightly more bearable.

Yesterday: I love my family and all, but I'll be damned if I ever do that again. My aunt and her family flew into DC from the Bahamas this weekend because she was running in the Marine Corps Marathon (For some sadistic reason she enjoys things like this) which was happening Sunday morning. My parents came down from Jersey to see her run/visit/take them back to NJ with them. I originally did not plan to attend said marathon, figuring it would interfere with my regular sunday habit of WATCHING FOOTBALL ALL DAY LONG, however, after one of my mother's whine/guilt sessions I ended up agreeing to go. Managed to trap "girlfriend" into going as well. One word describes this experience...clusterfuck. Driving into DC figured to be complete mayhem, so we decided on using the metro, and my mother decided she wanted to see my aunt at mile 20 and at the finish. A

fter and arduous metro trip to smithsonian where I led is in the incorrect direction for a few stops on a ridiculously packed train, we come out only to realize the mile 20 marker isn't particularly close to the Smithsonian metro stop, and that by the time we got there she had already passed it. Sigh...back on the metro to the Rosslyn stop, where the Finish Line Extravaganza was. I'd never been to Rosslyn Metro..i mean who goes on Orange Line to get anywhere, but I soon found out that it had one of those laboriously long escalators, which at the time of our arrival were not functioning. Needless to say, this wasn't a pretty sight with 34,000 families of 34,000 runners all trying to get to the same place at the same time. Finally made it up the stairs, only to find a bigger mess outside trying to get to the finish line at the Iwo Jima Memorial. Had to be around 60-80,000 people there, trying to squeeze over some bridge with a stupid stage on it with a crappy cover band. I didn't see my aunt cross the finish line..at that point I didn't care, I congratulated her, after cursing myself for being fooled into going.

Here's the fun part. Upon trying to leave the marathon area, we headed in the direction of the metro, only to be discouraged by the LINES of peoples just trying to get into the two metro entrances. I'm talking about 100ft lines of people just to get into the station. At this point I said no way in hell I'm taking metro back and began trying to procure a taxi. I'm unsure if this was a good idea or not, since it seemed other brilliant people had the same idea to to try grabbing a taxi. We started the process at 2:30 pm, after moving from location to location I finally frantically stopped a cab about 4 blocks away from Rosslyn Metro and begged him to take us to Silver Spring Metro...this was at about 3:45pm. Still not finished...in my haste to get everyone over to the cab before I was attacked by other frustrated travelers, my father dropped his cell phone running across the street. Fortunately it was picked up by someone..who lives in Alexandria, so I'll be picking that up sometime on Tuesday...NEVER AGAIN Marine Corps Marathon...NEVER AGAIN!

Tomorrow: Probably finishing my laundry, and picking my fathers phone in Alexandria after work. Then hoping "girlfriends" apartment doesn't have its heat turned to Slavery level.

Friday/Saturday: Seems Rowe is getting older or something, but the Borat Movie comes out then, and I'm sure we'll be in attendance. I think Klancer is also getting old, he might be turning 30, I'll have to get confirmation.

Now: back to work before lunch breakThe Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1161372297016608332006-10-20T14:52:00.001-04:002006-10-20T15:24:57.090-04:00Soul Rebel - LonelyThis is my friend/past roommate/partner in crime's video for his groups new song, Lonely.

The link to their website is on the side of the page.

The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1161094756863841122006-10-17T10:18:00.000-04:002006-10-17T10:19:16.886-04:00Denny Green blows a gasket.......or whatever that means. He's been written about, parodied, and just generally ridiculed for a good decade now. Doesn't change my memories of him when he was great, but sometimes it's just sad to see how far he's fallen. A few months back, I read an article describing how Tyson was basically putting on training exhibitions in crappy Las Vegas casinos to make a little coin. He owes big money to the government and others, and needs all the income he can get. As recently as a few weeks ago it was announced that he was going on a worldwide exhibition tour, taking on just about any fighter willing to go a few rounds with the former champ.

3 years ago I can remember half jokingly/half seriously telling my roommate (Mr. Spence) that Tyson would be fighting animals in the ring in 5 years. Today it seems like that notion isn't too far off. I glanced at this article this morning:

Ready to rumble: Tyson serious about fighting women on 'World Tour'

At a news conference at an Italian restaurant, Tyson said he would likely go just four rounds and that future stops on the tour might include bouts with women, possibly professional boxer Ann Wolfe.

When asked if he was joking about fighting women, Tyson said, "I'm very serious."

Honestly, what could you possibly say about that. The same guy who did this:

...could possibly end up fighting female boxers in the next year or so. My new prediction for Tyson over the last year is that he will be a greeter at the Circus Circus Hotel in Las Vegas in 5 years. But now I'm not sure he makes all the way out there...maybe the tropicana in Atlantic City. Sad to see...however, still somewhat amusing. The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12479169.post-1160667142007665622006-10-12T11:23:00.000-04:002006-10-12T11:32:22.050-04:00Politicians are StupidThe sheer stupidity of some politicians is amazing. It's almost as if they are in a hurry to shove their foots in their mouths. I'm sure by now all of you have seen or at least heard about the Mark Foley Scandal. I'm not even going there...but this congressman made some comments in response...

Shays on Foley handling: At least no one died

"I know the speaker didn't go over a bridge and leave a young person in the water, and then have a press conference the next day," the embattled Connecticut congressman told The Hartford Courant in remarks published Wednesday.

"Dennis Hastert didn't kill anybody," he added.

Shays' comments recalled the Chappaquiddick incident, when Kennedy's car ran off a Massachusetts bridge, killing his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy did not immediately report the tragedy, and he later pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.

My first instinct is WTF! However, I supposes this is par for the course with politicians. Was it really necessary to take potshots at Ted Kennedy? I mean for christ sakes its Ted Kennedy, no one in this country takes him seriously anymore. What was the point in that? Also what did you gain by saying "At least no one died", yes numerous teenagers were harassed (poorly) by Mark Foley, but you're right, no one died. Thanks. Somewhere around 15/16 hours or so. I've explained that previously. However I neglected to mention my dependency on so-called "energy drinks". Right up the street from the studio was a 7-11 and almost everyday on the way home from the station I would stop and pick up 2-3 energy drinks. I rotated between Mountain Dew Amp, Sobe Adrenaline Rush, and the omnipresent Red Bull.

Up to that point I was under the impression that they had no relative effect, from previous experiences with them in college during my many failed "up all night because I never went to class and the final is tomorrow " cram sessions. They kept me just barely awake, but not enough to where I could actually learn anything. So when I started drinking them again for the radio station, I wasn't sure of the effect until the night I didn't get any, and struggled to make it home and almost passed out in the hallway. Unfortunately, well after my radio days were over, I was still drinking them, for no particular reason...just recently putting a stop to it.

Over the past few weeks I had heard about this new energy drink..Cocaine. Great name right? They have two taglines: "The Legal Alternative" Ha...and "Cocaine - Instant Rush. NO Crash!"

basically they are purporting that their drink 350 times more effective than Red Bull, and you experience no energy crash after drinking it (which I'm not sure how that's possible). With that kind of name, you figure there would be some public outcry as soon as it hit the shelves correct. Well it's already here.

"Councilman James Sanders Jr., a Laurelton Democrat, said he was shocked when constituents informed him last week about the latest drink hitting the shelves in New York City and Long Island. At a City Hall news conference, he said the drink's name and claims it contains a massive amount of "energy" send the wrong message to young people, who may think the actual drug was OK to use."

Now that councilman is obviously just trying to make a name for himself, which is fine that's what politicians do. Kind of a silly argument to make, and either case you should all get ready for the Cocaine rush, as I'm sure it will flood the market just like Red Bull did.

Cocaine Website

Cocaine MySpace Page

The Hitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09356725537756429891noreply@blogger.com0
