The Diplomats

Why do I hate the Diplomats?....

I get asked this question many times. They say "Kyle, didn't you like them at one time?", and "Why are you hating on the Dips" etc, etc. I mean my own brother, flesh and blood, is a staunch Dipset supporter. So are many of the people I call friends. Why am I so against them? That question has so many answers, but I'm going to try to keep this as concise as possible. The Diplomats are hip hop's equivalent to Britney Spears. They dont have any particular talent, they are flashy, they make some catchy songs, are slightly interesting to watch for non musical reasons and no one can exactly figure why they have any popularity. I have to admit, I am a fan of one of the members of the Dipset, as they like to call themselves. I've been a Cam'Ron fan since day one, and by day one I don't mean Confessions of Fire. By day one I mean Children of the Corn, featuring Killa Cam, Mase Murder and the late, great Big L. I figured i need to say that before I continued on bashing Cam's Crew.

Lately I've been alarmed at the amount of people I find out that are Diplomat fans. I like to think of myself as a highly intelligent person, and also like to think that my friends are also moderate to highly intelligent. However, I cannot understand how any intelligent person can look me in the face and defend the Diplomats as a viable part of hip hop. I understand that everyone has their preferences and different tastes in music. I have no problem with that. I know I like some music that most others don't. But the Diplomats make music that is exactly what they say it is...Crack. Crack has no redeeming value, and no positive impact on the human body, however it is extremely addictive and makes people do obscene things to acquire it. Their music is much of the same, no intelligent person can say anyone in this ever growing crew has any type of lyrical ability, "I'm a baller baller, you not at all a baller" - Juelz Santana, however people will defend them to the death. For reasons I can't seem to comprehend. Maybe its the production, but even at this point their production isn't what it used to be. Now for the most part I let the wackness of the Diplomats go off my radar. I just stopped listening, Cam was blabbering about colors, cars, clothing, jewelry, and whatever else rhymed...and no matter how clever or talented you are, that shit gets old very quickly. As I've said many times, you could give Cam a color, a clothing line, a car, a gun, and some jewerly and he could make a 16 track album, and swear it was the hottest thing since sliced bread. Thats the next thing that gets me, is how people buy into their arrogance and just take it. Cam says hes hot...so he must be. Now I'm not one for knocking a niggas hustle, but damn if I'm going to listen to a crew of subpar rappers, that are rapping about nothing, no substance no nothing.

The Diplomat movement wouldn't alarm me as much if those same people were open to realizing that they music they so love is absolute garbage, but like any crackhead or drug addict...the denial stage is hard to break out of. What burned me recently is these same fans of the Diplomats tried to tell me that an established Hip-Hop great, that no one in the Diplomats (Cam included) could touch with a 10 foot pole, Common and his new album weren't worth listening to. This was too much for me to take...Not only has Common produced a near if not classic album, but he is also a Hip Hop Legend. To even compare him and them is blasphemous. You dont compare McDonald's Big Macs to Ruth's Chris Filet Mignon...But either way...I'm done yapping for tonite, i will be doing more commentary on them tomorrow. Feel free to post an intelligent response or comment...Peace.

Why I started this damn blog...

There are many times where I have numerous thoughts on my mind that i need to get out, and the AIM system just isnt sufficient for that type of thing. Here you will read my thoughts on many wide ranging issues, but I will start out slow and focus on music that i want eliminated from the scene. The first blog will be about "The Diplomats", and my thoughts/feelings/concerns/questions about them. It should be up shortly.
